Target Information

SLIT and NTRK-like family 1 (Slitrk1) belongs to a protein family of six homologous transmembrane proteins (Slitrk1–6) that share two conserved leucine-rich repeat domains in the extracellular region and show homology to Slit (axon growth-controlling protein) and Trk neurotrophin receptors in their intracellular domains.
Expression of Slitrk proteins is restricted to neural and brain tumor tissues but varies within the family. Slitrk1 is mainly expressed in mature neurons. Overexpression of Slitrk1 induces unipolar neurites, while other Slitrk proteins inhibit neurite outgrowth, suggesting involvement in neurite outgrowth control.
Variants of Slitrk1 have been suggested to be associated with Tourette’s Syndrome, though likely with minor relevance.
