Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a glycoprotein belonging to the pentraxin family, which has a characteristic pentameric organization. These proteins share high sequence homology due to gene duplication. The encoded protein binds to amyloid cross-beta fold structures, suggesting a chaperone-like role. It is also thought to control chromatin degradation and binds to apoptotic cells at early stages, indicating a potential role in apoptotic cell clearance in vivo.
