Target Information
Iron regulatory protein 2 (IRP2) is a central post-transcriptional regulator of cellular and systemic iron metabolism. It is a cytosolic RNA-binding protein that binds to stem-loop structures. IRP2 is regulated by iron-mediated proteolysis. Hypoxia plays a role in normal tissue physiology and various diseases such as cardiovascular and tumor growth. Because iron and oxygen are closely related, IRP2 also functions during hypoxia (low oxygen).
