Target Information
Gamma-amino butyric acid (GABA) is a major inhibitory neurotransmitter found throughout the central nervous system. It is produced by the decarboxylation of glutamate and acts through GABA-A or GABA-B receptors. Binding of GABA to GABA-A receptors increases chloride ion transport into neurons, leading to signal repression. Deficiency in GABA-mediated signaling can cause blackouts, rapid contractions, seizures, and epilepsy.
