Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes CD117 on a small subset of porcine bone marrow progenitor cells and provides an alternative tool to the previously used c-kit ligand stem cell factor for isolation and enrichment of porcine stem cells.
Target Information
KIT (c-KIT) is a proto-oncogene and a type 3 transmembrane receptor for MGF (mast cell growth factor, also known as stem cell factor). KIT regulates growth and activation of various hematopoietic and non-hematopoietic cells.
Mutations in KIT are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous leukemia, and piebaldism. Deregulation of KIT receptor TK by mutation D816V is a key therapeutic target for neoplastic mast cell growth.
c-Kit is expressed in hematopoietic stem cells, germ cells, mast cells, and gastrointestinal tract cajal cells. Upon SCF binding, c-kit dimerizes, leading to receptor activation and autophosphorylation of tyrosine residues such as Tyr703, enabling Grb2 docking and Ras/ERK pathway activation.
SCF/c-kit signaling also activates PI3K, PLC-γ, and JAK/STAT pathways, essential for hematopoiesis, stem cell maintenance, and gametogenesis.
