Target Information
The structure-specific ERCC1/XPF endonuclease complex is implicated in the repair of two distinct types of lesions in DNA:
- NER (Nucleotide Excision Repair): Repairs UV-induced lesions and bulky chemical adducts.
- Recombination Repair: Handles genotoxic interstrand crosslinks.
In mammalian cells, XPG cleaves the 3′ side of DNA lesions, while the ERCC1/XPF complex makes the 5′ incision.
ERCC1/XPF also likely participates in processing partially repaired recombination intermediates.
