Target Information
Carnitine acetyltransferase (CRAT) is a key enzyme involved in mitochondrial, peroxisomal, and endoplasmic reticulum metabolic pathways.
It catalyzes the reversible transfer of acyl groups from acyl-CoA thioesters to carnitine, regulating the acylCoA/CoA ratio in subcellular compartments.
Alternative splicing of the CRAT gene results in three distinct isoforms, one containing an N-terminal mitochondrial transit peptide localized in mitochondria.
