Target Information
MaxiK channels are large conductance, voltage and calcium-sensitive potassium channels fundamental to the control of smooth muscle tone and neuronal excitability. These channels are composed of two subunits: the pore-forming alpha subunit and the modulatory beta subunit.
The protein encoded by KCNMB4 acts as an auxiliary beta subunit, slowing activation kinetics, increasing calcium sensitivity, and shifting the voltage range of current activation to more negative potentials compared to the beta 1 subunit.
