EPHB2는 ephrin receptor family에 속하는 receptor tyrosine kinase로, 신경계 발달, 혈관형성, 신경 시냅스 형성과 성숙 등 다양한 생물학적 과정에서 중요한 역할을 합니다. Ephrin은 구조와 서열 유사성에 따라 ephrin-A (EFNA)와 ephrin-B (EFNB) 두 클래스으로 나뉘며, 각각 GPI-anchored 및 transmembrane 형태를 가집니다. Eph receptor는 ephrin-A 및 ephrin-B 리간드 결합 친화도에 따라 두 그룹으로 분류되며, RTK family 중 가장 큰 서브그룹을 형성합니다. EphB4는 ephrin-B2와 결합하여 혈관 발달에 필수적인 역할을 수행합니다.
