Target Information
VLR-1 (also known as TRPV2) is a calcium-permeable, non-selective cation channel with outward rectification. It appears to be regulated by growth factors such as IGF1, PDGF, and morphogenetic neuropeptide/head activator. Unlike other TRP channels, VRL-1 does not respond to capsaicin, acid, or moderate heat, but is activated by high temperatures (~52°C). Within sensory ganglia, VRL-1 is prominently expressed in medium- to large-diameter neurons, suggesting a role in high-threshold heat response. Its expression beyond the sensory nervous system indicates possible activation by stimuli other than heat. VRL-1 is one of six members of the vanilloid-like TRP-channel family, now known as the TRPV family.
