Target Information
SARS-CoV-2 (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2), also known as 2019-nCoV, causes illnesses ranging from mild cold-like symptoms to severe respiratory distress and death.
The Spike Protein consists of S1 and S2 domains and serves as the main surface antigen.
The glycosylated Spike protein and nucleocapsid protein can be detected in infected cell culture supernatants using antisera from SARS patients.
S1 includes a receptor-binding domain (RBD) that specifically binds to ACE2, the receptor on target cells.
Variations in Spike proteins contribute to CoV diversity, affecting receptor interactions and viral membrane fusion mechanisms.
