MAPK7 (ERK5) serine/threonine kinase는 MAP kinase 계열 단백질로, 세포 증식, 분화, 전사 조절 및 발달 등 다양한 세포 과정에 관여합니다.
MAPK7은 MAP2K5/MEK5에 의해 활성화되며, 세포 외 신호에 반응하여 핵으로 이동해 여러 전사 인자를 인산화 및 활성화함으로써 유전자 발현을 조절합니다.
마우스에서 MAPK7 유전자가 결실되면 혈관 및 심장 발달 이상으로 배아 치사 현상이 나타납니다. 또한 MAPK7은 내피세포 기능 유지 및 혈관 무결성에 필수적입니다.
ERK5는 심장, 태반, 폐, 신장, 골격근 등 다양한 성체 조직에서 발현되며, 간에서는 검출되지 않습니다.
