Target Information
Type I collagen is a fibrillar collagen found in most connective tissues and is the only collagen component found in cartilage. Mutations in this gene are associated with osteogenesis imperfecta, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and idiopathic osteoporosis. Reciprocal translocations between chromosomes 17 and 22, involving this gene and the platelet-derived growth factor beta gene, are linked to dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans due to unregulated growth factor expression. Two transcripts have been identified, resulting from alternate polyadenylation signals.
