Target Information
Trex1 (ATRIP) is the major human 3' to 5' exonuclease required for checkpoint signaling after DNA damage. It binds to single-stranded DNA coated with replication protein A at sites of DNA damage and recruits ATR, a checkpoint kinase, to these sites. Trex1 is essential for ATR expression and uses two open reading frames encoding proteins involved in DNA damage response and exonuclease activity. Mutations in this gene are associated with Aicardi-Goutieres syndrome, chilblain lupus, and Cree encephalitis.
