UCN2 (Urocortin 2) is a protein-coding gene associated with Body Mass Index Quantitative Trait Locus 11. Related pathways include Signaling by GPCR and Presynaptic function of Kainate receptors. Gene Ontology (GO) annotations include signaling receptor binding and G protein-coupled receptor binding.
UCN2 belongs to the sauvagine/corticotropin-releasing factor/urotensin I family and is structurally related to the corticotropin-releasing factor (CRF) gene. It acts as an endogenous ligand for CRF type 2 receptors and may mediate stress-induced appetite regulation in the brain. Despite gene family name similarity, it shows no sequence similarity to urotensin II.
