Target Information
GTP-binding proteins are GTPases functioning as molecular switches that alternate between active (GTP-bound) and inactive (GDP-bound) states. When GTP is bound, the protein triggers downstream signaling events. Activation occurs upon ligand binding to a G-protein-linked receptor, which induces GDP release and GTP binding. The active form transmits signals until GTP hydrolysis returns it to the inactive GDP-bound state.
