세포 내 위치

Cytoplasm, cytoskeleton, cell junction, cell projection, ruffle membrane.
Peripheral membrane protein localized on the cytoplasmic side.
Relocalizes to the immunological synapse between T-lymphocytes and antigen-presenting cells upon costimulation through TCR/CD3 and CD2 or CD28 (PubMed:17294403).
Associated with the actin cytoskeleton at membrane ruffles and relocates to actin-rich projections upon serine phosphorylation (PubMed:16636079).

배경 (Background)

Plastins are a family of actin-binding proteins conserved throughout eukaryotic evolution and expressed in most tissues of higher eukaryotes. In humans, two ubiquitous plastin isoforms (L and T) have been identified.
Plastin 1 (Fimbrin) is a third distinct isoform expressed at high levels in the small intestine.
The L isoform is expressed only in hematopoietic cell lineages, while the T isoform is present in other replicative solid tissue cells (fibroblasts, endothelial cells, epithelial cells, melanocytes, etc.).
L-plastin has also been found in many malignant human cells of non-hematopoietic origin, suggesting its expression is induced during tumorigenesis in solid tissues.
