Background
This gene encodes a member of the membrane-associated guanylate kinase (MAGUK) protein family, featuring an N-terminal PDZ domain, a central SH3 region, and a C-terminal guanylate kinase-like (GUK) domain. The protein localizes to the outer limiting membrane of the retina and is believed to play a role in photoreceptor polarity and the organization of specialized intercellular junctions. Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, though their biological validity has not yet been determined.
