Target Information
The PDE4A8 is a testis germ cell-specific PDE4A variant. Two PDE4A variants have been identified in rat testis (PDE4A8 and an uncharacterized 76 kDa PDE4A protein). Spermatogenesis involves expression of various PDE4 enzymes at different stages of cell differentiation, each performing specialized functions. Confocal microscopy revealed PDE4A8 presence in primary and secondary spermatids but not in mature spermatozoa. Inhibition of PDE4A8 increases germ cell apoptosis and reduces mature spermatozoa count.
