Target Information
Cytokeratin 19 is part of a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides.
Cytokeratins range in molecular weight from 40–68 kDa and have isoelectric pH values between 4.9–7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1 to 20 and show expression patterns characteristic of epithelial type and differentiation stage.
Cytokeratin subtype expression patterns aid in distinguishing various epithelial malignancies.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis via immunohistochemistry and are useful in cytopathology and flow cytometry.
Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes and can help identify liver metastasis.
