Target Information
Mammaglobin is a gene expressed almost exclusively in normal breast epithelium and human breast cancer.
It belongs to the secretoglobin gene family and forms a heterodimer with lipophilin B.
Mammaglobin has been suggested as a useful marker for breast cancer research. Studies using RT-PCR detection of mRNA from circulating carcinoma cells in breast cancer patients indicate that mammaglobin is a highly specific marker correlated with prognostic factors such as lymph node involvement.
