Target Information
Receptor for hyaluronic acid (HA). Mediates cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions through its affinity for HA and other ligands such as osteopontin, collagens, and matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs). Plays a key role in cell migration, tumor growth, and progression. In cancer cells, it may contribute to invadopodia formation. Also involved in lymphocyte activation, recirculation, homing, and hematopoiesis. Altered expression or dysfunction is associated with numerous pathogenic phenotypes. Exhibits great protein heterogeneity due to alternative splicing and post-translational modifications.
