Antibody detects endogenous levels of total Collagen XIII alpha 1.
Target Information
This gene encodes the alpha chain of one of the nonfibrillar collagens. The function of this gene product is not fully known; however, it has been detected at low levels in all connective tissue-producing cells, suggesting a general role in connective tissues. Unlike most collagens secreted into the extracellular matrix, collagen XIII contains a transmembrane domain and is localized to the plasma membrane. The gene undergoes complex splicing involving at least eight exons. Collagen XIII forms a trimer, though the composition of its alpha chain isomers is not fully determined. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been identified, though some remain incompletely characterized.
