Target Information
This gene encodes a membrane-bound protein that is part of the ELO family, involved in the biosynthesis of fatty acids. Expression in photoreceptor cells of the retina is consistent with its role; mutations and small deletions in this gene are associated with Stargardt-like macular dystrophy (STGD3) and autosomal dominant atrophic macular degeneration (ADMD).
