FOXP1 유전자는 forkhead box (FOX) 전사 인자 패밀리의 P 하위군에 속합니다. 이 단백질은 DNA 결합 및 단백질-단백질 결합 도메인을 모두 포함하며, 발달 및 성체 단계에서 조직 및 세포 유형 특이적 유전자 전사를 조절하는 데 중요한 역할을 합니다. FOXP1은 여러 종양 유형에서 소실되어 종양 억제 인자로 작용할 수 있으며, 종양 억제 유전자가 존재하는 것으로 보고된 염색체 영역(3p14.1)에 위치합니다. 대체 스플라이싱으로 인해 다양한 아이소폼을 암호화하는 여러 전사 변이체가 생성됩니다.
