Target Information
Aconitase 1 (ACO1), also known as iron regulatory element binding protein 1 (IREB1), is a cytosolic protein that binds to iron-responsive elements (IREs) and plays a central role in cellular iron homeostasis.
It exhibits aconitase activity and belongs to the aconitase enzyme family. IREB1 regulates translation and stability of ferritin and transferrin receptor mRNAs through iron-dependent binding to IREs, maintaining iron balance in cells.
