Target Information

PIK3CG (p110 gamma) is the sole class IB phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase family member. It generates the second messenger PIP2 and primarily signals downstream of GPCRs, unlike class IA enzymes that act downstream of receptor tyrosine kinases. This enzyme phosphorylates phosphoinositides on the 3-hydroxyl group of the inositol ring and modulates extracellular signals, including those related to E-cadherin-mediated cell-cell adhesion, maintaining epithelial integrity. It also plays a role in NK cell cytotoxicity regulation. The gene is located in a commonly deleted region of chromosome 7 associated with myeloid leukemias.
