Target Information
The catalytic subunit C-beta of PKA (PRKACB) belongs to the Ser/Thr protein kinase family. The PKA catalytic subunit consists of three gene products: C-alpha, C-beta, and C-gamma, located on human chromosome 1p36.1. PRKACB is derived from a gene distinct from C-alpha and shows tissue-specific expression, with 93% amino acid homology between C-alpha and C-beta. The inactive holoenzyme of AMPK is a tetramer composed of two regulatory and two catalytic subunits. cAMP activates the enzyme by dissociating it into regulatory dimers and free catalytic monomers. Four regulatory and three catalytic subunits of AMPK have been identified in humans.
