Background
The WNT7A gene belongs to the WNT gene family, which encodes secreted signaling proteins involved in oncogenesis and multiple developmental processes, including regulation of cell fate and patterning during embryogenesis. WNT7A is essential for anterior-posterior axis development in the female reproductive tract and plays a key role in uterine smooth muscle patterning and maintenance of adult uterine function. Mutations in this gene are linked to Fuhrmann and Al-Awadi/Raas-Rothschild/Schinzel phocomelia syndromes. (RefSeq, Jul 2008)
