Target Information
CKIP1 was identified through a yeast-two hybrid screening as a protein that interacts with one of the two catalytic subunits of the casein kinase 2 complex. It is a pleckstrin homology domain-containing protein localized within the nucleus and plasma membrane, interacting with CK2alpha but not CK2alpha'. CKIP1 plays a role in targeting CK2alpha to specific cellular locations and is implicated in muscle differentiation, cell morphology, and actin cytoskeleton regulation. It can interact with ATM, recruiting nuclear ATM to the plasma membrane, potentially regulating ATM function. CKIP1 also forms complexes with AKT, leading to down-regulation of PI3K/AKT signaling and suppression of tumor growth in vivo.
