Target Information
Vimentin is a developmentally regulated intermediate filament protein found in cells of mesenchymal origin. It is involved in intracellular transport between the nucleus and plasma membrane. During development, vimentin is replaced by tissue-specific intermediate filament proteins. Vimentin also plays a role in steroid synthesis by facilitating cholesterol transport to mitochondria through phosphorylation-dependent cytoskeletal rearrangement.
