Target Information
GADD153 (also known as CHOP) is a small nuclear protein that can dimerize with transcription factors C/EBP alpha and beta. The resulting complex inhibits the normal binding and function of C/EBP to classical binding sites, while gaining binding activity to non-classical C/EBP stress-related targets. Under normal conditions, CHOP expression is minimal, but it is strongly upregulated during cellular or ER stress, such as treatment with tunicamycin, nutrient starvation, or reducing agents that affect calcium flux across the ER membrane.
