BATF is a nuclear basic leucine zipper protein belonging to the AP-1/ATF superfamily of transcription factors.
The leucine zipper mediates dimerization with Jun family proteins.
It acts as a negative regulator of AP-1/ATF transcriptional events and inhibits Ras/Fos-mediated transformation.
BATF is essential for differentiation of IL-17-producing T helper (TH17) cells and regulates class-switch recombination in T and B cells.
