Target Information
Adipose tissue plays a major role in regulating metabolic and immune processes by producing bioactive molecules known as adipokines. The adiponectin/ACRP30 family and its paralogs, C1q/TNF-related proteins (CTRPs) 1–7, are highly conserved adipokines.
CTRPs are expressed in various tissues and act mainly on liver and muscle to control glucose and lipid metabolism.
Structural analysis of adiponectin suggests an evolutionary link between TNF and C1q-containing proteins, indicating a shared ancestral gene.
In obese (ob/ob) mice, RT-PCR analysis shows elevated mCTRP1 transcript levels in adipose tissue compared to normal mice.
