Target Information
CD16 encodes a receptor that recognizes the Fc portion of immunoglobulin G and is involved in immune complex clearance, cellular cytotoxicity, and enhancement of viral infections. The gene FCGR3A shares high similarity with FCGR3B, located nearby on chromosome 1.
- Expression: FCGR3A is expressed on NK cells as a membrane glycoprotein; FCGR3B is expressed on neutrophils with a PI linkage.
- Clinical relevance: Mutations in FCGR3A are linked to immunodeficiency 20, recurrent viral infections, systemic lupus erythematosus, and alloimmune neonatal neutropenia.
- Variants: Alternative splicing results in different isoforms.
