ATP13A2 (PARK9) is a neuronal P-type ATPase gene associated with autosomal recessive early-onset parkinsonism with pyramidal degeneration and dementia.
ATP13A2 protein localizes to lysosomal membranes and is highly expressed in the brain, particularly in the substantia nigra, a region crucial in Parkinson’s disease pathology.
