Target Information
Component of the Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein BCOR complex, required to maintain the transcriptionally repressive state of certain genes such as BCL6 and CDKN1A. Acts as a transcriptional repressor potentially linked to the PKC signaling pathway. Represses CDKN1A expression by binding to its promoter in a retinoic acid response element (RARE)-dependent manner. Promotes cell cycle progression and proliferation and may support tumor cell growth by downregulating CDKN1A.
Also part of a PcG PRC1-like complex that mediates chromatin remodeling via monoubiquitination of histone H2A (Lys-119), maintaining heritable gene repression during development.
