Target Information

Single-chain membrane glycoprotein that forms a non-covalent complex with GPIb (MW 23 kDa). Reacts with resting and activated platelets, weakly with monocytes and megakaryocytes. Functions as an attachment site for the platelet plasma membrane to the submembrane cytoskeleton. The GPIb/IX complex acts as the receptor for ristocetin-induced binding of von Willebrand factor and serves as the von Willebrand factor-dependent adhesion receptor.
