Target Information
Dicer is a double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) endoribonuclease that plays a central role in short dsRNA-mediated post-transcriptional gene silencing. It cleaves long dsRNAs and pre-microRNAs (miRNAs) into 21–23 nucleotide fragments with 3' overhangs, generating siRNAs and mature miRNAs. These guide the RNA-induced silencing complex (RISC) to complementary RNAs for degradation or translational repression.
RNA interference (RNAi) mediated by siRNAs regulates transcript elimination from repetitive genomic elements and viral RNA degradation, while the miRNA pathway regulates specific gene expression.
