Target Information
The TMPRSS3 gene encodes a serine protease family protein containing serine protease, transmembrane, LDL receptor-like, and scavenger receptor cysteine-rich domains.
Serine proteases are involved in diverse biological processes, and their malfunction can lead to various human diseases.
TMPRSS3 is associated with congenital and childhood-onset autosomal recessive deafness, expressed in fetal cochlea and other tissues, and may play a role in inner ear development and maintenance.
It is also identified as a tumor-associated gene overexpressed in ovarian tumors.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described.
