Target Information
Cytokeratin 19 is part of a subfamily of intermediate filament proteins characterized by remarkable biochemical diversity, represented in human epithelial tissues by at least 20 different polypeptides.
Cytokeratins range in molecular weight from 40–68 kDa and isoelectric pH between 4.9–7.8.
Human cytokeratins are numbered 1–20. The expression patterns of cytokeratin subtypes are characteristic of epithelium types and their degree of differentiation.
Cytokeratin antibodies assist in tumor differential diagnosis using immunohistochemistry and are useful tools in cytopathology and flow cytometry.
Cytokeratin 19 is not expressed in hepatocytes and is therefore useful in identifying liver metastasis.
