Target Information
PGP9.5 (Protein Gene Product 9.5, UCH-L1, PARK5) is a neuron-specific protein, distinct from neuron-specific enolase.
It has a molecular weight of 27 kDa and belongs to the ubiquitin carboxyl-terminal hydrolase family (peptidase family C12).
PGP9.5 exhibits ubiquitin hydrolase and ligase activities, hydrolyzing small C-terminal adducts of ubiquitin to generate monomers.
It is present in neurons, nerve fibers, neuroendocrine cells, renal tubules, spermatogonia, Leydig cells, and ova.
Overexpression is linked to non-small cell lung cancer, while reduced expression is associated with Huntington and Alzheimer diseases.
PGP9.5 serves as a neuronal marker and is useful in studies of neurodegenerative disorders, including Parkinson disease.
