ATG14 (Autophagy related protein homolog 14)은 인간의 14번 염색체에 위치한 ATG14 유전자에 의해 암호화됩니다.
다른 이름으로 ATG14L 또는 BARKOR (Beclin 1-associated autophagy-related key regulator) 로도 알려져 있습니다.

자가포식(Autophagy)은 세포 내 불필요하거나 손상된 단백질 및 소기관을 분해하여 재활용하는 진화적으로 보존된 과정입니다.
이 과정은 영양 스트레스 등의 자극에 의해 유도되며, 오토파고좀(autophagosome)의 형성, 리소좀과의 융합, 오토파골리소좀(autophagolysosome)의 형성 단계를 포함합니다.

Class III PI3-Kinase (Vps34)와 Beclin 1 복합체는 ATG14(type 1) 또는 UVRAG(type 2)를 포함하는 두 가지 형태로 존재하며, ATG14는 type 1 복합체를 preautophagosomal structure (PAS)로 유도하여 오토파고좀 형성 개시에 중요한 역할을 합니다.
