Target Information

Voltage-dependent calcium channels are essential for neurotransmitter release. L-type voltage-dependent calcium channels consist of four subunits: alpha1, beta, gamma, and alpha2 delta. The gamma subunit, CACNG1 (also known as CACNLG), is a 222 amino acid multi-pass membrane protein belonging to the PMP-22/EMP/MP20 family and is expressed in skeletal muscle. It acts as a subunit of the dihydropyridine (DHP)-sensitive calcium channel and may play a role in excitation-contraction coupling. CACNG1 is considered a novel marker for malignant hyperthermia susceptibility (MHS), an autosomal dominant skeletal muscle disorder triggered by certain anesthetics and muscle relaxants.
