Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and may serve as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases.
KLK7 is part of a cluster of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members on chromosome 19. Its encoded enzyme is involved in proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures preceding desquamation (shedding of the outermost epidermal layer).
Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
