Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene catalyzes the formation of CTP from UTP with the concomitant deamination of glutamine to glutamate. This enzyme is rate-limiting in cytosine nucleotide synthesis, essential for RNA and DNA production. Elevated CTPS2 activity is associated with increased cell proliferation in cancer, making it a potential target for selective chemotherapy. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
