Target Information

The 26S proteasome is a multicatalytic proteinase complex composed of two subcomplexes: a 20S core and a 19S regulator.

• The 20S core consists of four rings of 28 non-identical subunits (two rings of seven alpha and two rings of seven beta subunits).
• The 19S regulator includes a base with six ATPase and two non-ATPase subunits, and a lid containing up to ten non-ATPase subunits.
  Proteasomes are widely distributed in eukaryotic cells and cleave peptides in an ATP/ubiquitin-dependent, non-lysosomal pathway.
  The immunoproteasome plays a key role in processing class I MHC peptides.
  This gene encodes a non-ATPase subunit of the 19S regulator. A pseudogene has been identified on chromosome 1.
