Target Information

Parkinson disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disorder after Alzheimer’s disease, affecting approximately 1% of individuals over 65 and 3% over 75 years old.
Synuclein alpha interacting protein (Synphilin-1) contains multiple protein-protein interaction domains and interacts with alpha-synuclein in neurons. Mutations in SNCAIP have been linked to Parkinson disease.
Synphilin-1 shows high homology with its human counterpart, particularly in ankyrin-like motifs and coiled-coil domains. Expression patterns in mouse tissues are similar to those in humans.
Synphilin-1 plays a key role in aggregate formation and cytotoxicity in Parkinson disease, and Dorfin may contribute to the pathogenic process via ubiquitylation of Synphilin-1. It is also involved in synaptic function, protein degradation, and neurodegenerative mechanisms.
