Target Information
Nortriptyline Base is a tricyclic antidepressant agent used for short-term treatment of various forms of depression. It blocks norepinephrine presynaptic receptors, thereby inhibiting reuptake and increasing neurotransmitter concentration in the synaptic cleft of the CNS. Nortriptyline also binds to alpha-adrenergic, histaminergic, and cholinergic receptors. Long-term treatment results in downregulation of adrenergic receptors due to increased stimulation.
