Product Specific Information
This antibody detects the precursor form of human Relaxin-1 in direct ELISAs and Western blots. It does not detect the mature Relaxin-1 heterodimer. No cross-reactivity is observed with recombinant human Relaxin-2 or Relaxin-3 precursors in ELISA or Western blot assays.
Reconstitute at 0.5 mg/mL in sterile PBS before use.
Target Information
Relaxins are endocrine and autocrine/paracrine hormones belonging to the insulin gene superfamily. In humans, there are three non-allelic relaxin genes: RLN1, RLN2, and RLN3, with RLN1 and RLN2 sharing high sequence homology.
Relaxin is synthesized as a single-chain polypeptide, with the active form consisting of A and B chains linked by disulfide bonds. It is produced primarily by the ovary and acts on the reproductive system to ripen the cervix, elongate the pubic symphysis, and inhibit uterine contraction. Additional roles include enhancing sperm motility, regulating blood pressure, controlling heart rate, and stimulating oxytocin and vasopressin release.
Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been described, though their full-length sequences are not yet fully characterized.
